Sticker Templates
In addition to DeskLot's vehicle window sticker printing
capabilities, it also has the functionality to publish your
vehicle inventory data to most any automobile inventory service
available. Our "Import / Export Vehicle Data" functionality does not
"hard-code" a few pre-defined export configurations,
therefore, you are not limited to just a few services that you can
export to. The wide array of available export settings give you
extreme flexibility to configure DeskLot to send inventory data
to most anyone. Send inventory data via FTP, email, or export to
a local export file. Have a service you need to send to? Just
ask them for their Data Feed Specifications Sheet which gives
you all of the information on what to send, how to send it and
where to send it to. Then use that information to create an
export configuration in DeskLot.
Need inventory for your web-site? DeskLot can also export
inventory data to your site via either standard HTML or
ASP/MS-Access. For more advanced and robust needs, you can used
DeskLot to export inventory data to an additionally priced WalkTheLot.com®
account.

In addition to DeskLot's export functionality, DeskLot can
also import from many MS-Access databases, a WalkTheLot.com
account, or a delimited text file such as you might export from
your DMS or another program.

When it comes to entering vehicle data and options,
flexibility is once again key. As mentioned before, you can
import the data from a DMS export in many cases, you can
manually enter the data (which is easier than normal thanks to
convenient drop-down lists and check boxes), or you can use one
of three additionally priced VIN decoders that are included in DeskLot. The VinPower®
VIN decoder is a basic VIN decoder that works from a local
database (located on your computer) that returns the information
that the manufacturer included in their VIN. Typically, this is
Year, Make, Model, Engine, Transmission and a few options. The VinLink®
VIN exploder is an advanced VIN exploder that retrieves its
information over the Internet and returns a great deal of
information about the vehicle... it will even let you select
specific trim levels, packages offered by the manufacturer and
generally MPG data. Lastly, the power-house VIN exploder used by
most of our window sticker printing company clients, the
VIN exploder using
Chrome® data. This VIN exploder
uses databases stored on your computer so that an Internet
connection is not required to decode a VIN. It is highly
customizable to return as much or as little information as you
like, stock photos, and much much more.

Decoding

Things to Consider When Choosing a Window Sticker Printing
Program
1st things 1st. Don't rely on a salespersons pitch when
making a decision on what software you choose... not even ours.
People talk a good game. If you can't try it to see if what they
are telling you is true, then chances are you don't want to buy
it. With DeskLot, we give you a full
30 days to put our software to work for you. Most
of our clients have the software in full production long before
it is time for them to purchase, which is great, because it lets
them really thoroughly test it in a production environment
before making their purchasing decision.
It is important to know that there are some essential
functionality features that you will need regardless of
whether you are a dealership or a window sticker printing
company. Functionality features that you might at first not be
aware of.
Publishing Vehicle Data to Other Services
Most window sticker printing software only allows you to publish
vehicle data to the services (such as Cars.com, AutoTrader,
Cobalt, etc) that they have "hard-coded" into their
software, IF they allow you to publish to other services at all.
This is especially bad for anyone starting or running a
pre-owned vehicle window sticker printing business since dealers
have their inventory broadcast to a diverse variety of other
services. Not good for business for you to have to tell your new
prospects, "sorry, we can't do that, our software only
allows us to send to A, B, C and D". For auto dealers the
same applies. Auto dealerships have in many cases grown
accustomed to their window sticker printing company just
magically sending their inventory data to other Internet sites
for them. Then, when they decide to do it themselves, it is a
rude awakening to find out, the software they just bought to
print their stickers can not do that.
With DeskLot, we don't "hard code" export
configurations in our software. Instead, we created a "Data
Transfer" system which lets you configure an unlimited
number of configurations to send to most any services. Within
the Data Transfer Configuration screens, you enter the
parameters needed to accommodate the service you want to send
to. In most cases, the service you desire to send vehicle data
to should provide you with a specifications sheet that outlines
how they want their data formatted and where they want it sent.

 Use
Any Window Stickers You Like - Create Any Design You Like
Most window sticker printing software does NOT let you
design a sticker anyway you want to. You generally enter text
and add a graphic or two and the software is
"hard-coded" to put that content in one or more places
"pre-defined by the software". You can not control
where it goes and in many cases what goes there (for example,
Make always goes here, Model always goes here, etc). Because of
this limitation, of course you are limited to what you can do
but more importantly, you have to purchase stickers from them
because they hard coded their software to use their stickers
with their dimensions and positioning... and unfortunately, in
many cases, their stickers are pretty expensive. If you come to
find out that their sticker quality is not up to par, such as
they smear or peel off in the heat, you're locked in. It's not
like you can just run out and buy your stickers from somewhere
else in most cases.
DeskLot is not like this. Although we do sell
window stickers that are top-quality and at awesome
prices, you do not HAVE to purchase them from us. You can
purchase stickers from anyone you like... you could even print
your stickers on blank paper if you chose to. This is because
the Desklot window sticker design environment lets you place
whatever you want wherever you want. Graphics, shapes, vehicle
data fields, text, fonts, colors, vehicle photo's, etc. You're
in control. You can choose from one
of our many window sticker templates that are included in the
software that are designed to print on our
stickers or you can create your own virtually anyway you
want them. Print on your own custom printed stickers,
pre-printed, blanks, blank paper, whatever. You choose.
Print an Unlimited Number of Stickers
Some companies limit the number of stickers you can print from
within their software or charge you per-sticker for printing
window stickers. We have even heard of some companies that make
you get a new unlock code after you have printed a certain
number of stickers and yet others that only let you print as
many stickers as you have ordered window sticker forms from
them. Interesting. You can print as many stickers as you like
with DeskLot with no additional fee's other than you obviously
have to purchase your stickers from somewhere, whether it be us
or someone else.
Enter an Unlimited Number of Vehicles
Simply put, enter or import as many vehicles as you like.
Maintain an Unlimited Number of Dealership Inventory
Accounts (Enterprise Version
Only)
With our Standard Version,
which is intended for use by dealerships who only need to
maintain one separate inventory account, you are limited
to one. However, with our Enterprise
Version, you may create as many individual dealership
accounts as you like. The Enterprise
Version is intended for window sticker printing companies or
dealerships who need to maintain multiple individual inventory
accounts (i.e. each dealerships vehicles are kept in a separate
database from the others).
Choice of Two VIN Decoding Technologies
Choose from two VIN
decoders. They're both already installed with DeskLot so
there is nothing further to install. Simply click the VIN
Decoding menu from within DeskLot and enable the decoder of your
choice. One works from a local database and does basic
VIN decoding. The other connects to an Internet database and
provides extensive VIN exploding. For more

No Special Hardware to Buy
With DeskLot, there are no cute little proprietary gadgets to
buy. With some window sticker printing software, you have to use
a special machine that you can only purchase from them. With
DeskLot, you use your own computer, printer and digital camera.
Some clients use their desktop computer. Others their notebook.
Many of our customers who run their own window sticker printing
businesses with DeskLot use tablet PC's... of their choice.
Additionally, we don't offer any software for PDA's. Reason;
PDA's are too limited and with the continuing evolution of
notebook and tablet PC's that just keep getting smaller and more
powerful, there really is no need. They are cute though.
Additionally, it is our thought that by spending time developing
support for PDA's (for which we only very rarely even get
a request for), it distracts and takes time away from continuing
to improve DeskLot.
Contracts
From what we're hearing, some companies make you sign a contract
to use their software? Huh?! Whatever! DeskLot has no contracts.
